Welcome Letter

“Aiming towards an Annual Meeting that Responds to the New Era”

The Japanese Society of Radiological Technology
The 77th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Radiological Technology
President HIROKO NISHIDE

The JRC2021 will be a new type of annual meeting that responds to the new normal era. The most significant change is that this annual meeting will be held both on-site at the PACIFICO Yokohama and online. Last year’s JRC2020 unfortunately took place on the web due to the Covid-19 outbreak. While there were some projects that were no longer possible, we were also able to experience the benefits brought by the web. For this year’s annual meeting, we plan to distribute the videos of the symposium and lectures online starting from late April, after the end of the on-site meeting at Yokohama.

The main theme of the JRC2021 is “Milestones and Beyond”. In the field of radiology, we have established many milestones, and the Department of Radiological Technology is the result of these milestones. In the future, we need to set new milestones and continue to move forward. In Joint Symposium 2, we will hold a symposium entitled “Mammography Systems and Image Evolution ” as the “Milestones and Beyond” in Mammography. In addition, we have prepared many programs that we believe will be useful for your future researches, such as conference, assignment report session, a joint project with JCS to explain the DRLs 2020 which was revised last year, an AI hands-on seminar, and more projects designed by the specialized sections and committees.

Furthermore, although we originally planned to hold joint symposiums and special lectures with the Japanese Radiological Society (JRS) and the Japanese Society of Medical Physics (JSMP), we decided to hold a public forum instead, entitled ” Ten Years After the Earthquake – Trajectory and the Future of Fukushima Nuclear Accident “. This year will mark the 10th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, and we would like take this opportunity to look back on the nuclear accident and discuss what should be done for the future. The public forum will be the last day of the conference, and we hope for your consideration in joining the discussion.

At this year’s conference, we will continue the “International Session” jointly organized with the JSMP, which was planned as a new stage towards internationalization at last year’s JRC2020. This is a session where everything from presentation to the Q&A session will be conducted in English. The venue, Room 501, will become an English-speaking environment, except for the joint projects with the JSMP and the Executive Committee’s project. We believe that you will be able to fully experience the atmosphere of an international conference.

Since the spread of the COVID-19 a year ago, the JRC has been working as a team, changing the schedule many times and trying out different possibility to prepare for the event. We sincerely hope that the participants will be able to exchange information and ask questions in real time, which could not be done on the web, so that the purpose of the conference, as we see it, will be achieved.
