“Radiology for Everyone”

JRC2025, The 81st Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japan Society of Radiological Technology, will be held from April 10th to 13th, 2025, at Pacifico Yokohama in Japan. This year’s conference theme is “Radiology for Everyone.
What kind of “Radiology” do you envision? When I became a radiological technologist 38 years ago, Radiological diagnosis primarily referred to X-ray photography, although CT, nuclear medicine, and angiography were already in use.
At that time, we used analog film with silver particles, and the film was processed in a darkroom using an automatic processor. The film went through four stages: development, fixing, washing, and drying, to produce a single photograph. It was revolutionary to complete these four stages in just 90 seconds. Back then, radiological technologists were easily recognized by the stains on their lab coats, which were caused by the chemicals used in film processing. Nowadays, you no longer see chemical stains on lab coats, and the smell, sounds, and atmosphere of the workplace have changed significantly.
With rapid technological advancements, X-ray films have transitioned from analog to digital, and the term “photograph” has been replaced with “image.” These advancements are the results of extensive research by many scientists and engineers involved in radiology, truly embodying “Radiology for Everyone.” This is indeed the culmination of the radiological technology that the JSRT has developed.
While reflecting on this history of evolution, we have also chosen another theme: “Back to Basics.” By revisiting the analog era and reconsidering the gains and losses in the transition to the digital age from a technical perspective, we aim to explore the rapidly advancing fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and medical digital transformation (DX) with attendees at this conference. Additionally, in our joint symposium, we plan to discuss future medical care, focusing on initiatives like DRLs 2025, Artificial Intelligence (AI), genomic medicine, and radiology. We are also planning many lunchtime lectures and specialized educational sessions, and more.
Meanwhile, the Joint JSRT-JSMP International Conference on Radiological Physics and Technology (ICRPT) will also be hosting the 4th ICRPT. With each iteration, we have seen more participants in the presentation venue (Room 502), and we hope to see further development as an international conference. Why not take this opportunity to challenge yourself at the 4th ICRPT? You might discover a new side of yourself.
Have you had a chance to see the poster for JRC2025? The poster for this conference is filled with the thoughts and aspirations of three presidents of JRS, JSRT, JSMP, and the various organizations, all encapsulated in the phrase “Radiology for Everyone.” This small space is packed with many ideas, such as doctors, patients, local regions, telemedicine, family, robotic surgery, justification, Society 5.0, and landscape of Yokohama. We hope you will take a close look and feel the essence of “Radiology for Everyone.”
Finally, the conference will be held both onsite at Pacifico Yokohama for four days and online, allowing you to participate at your convenience from your home or workplace. We hope that many people from Japan and around the world will join us in engaging in lively discussions and fostering new connections. We look forward to welcoming you to Pacifico Yokohama in Japan.
Warmest Regards,
Hideyuki Iwanaga President of the 81st Annual Meeting of JSRT
